How resin jewelry is made, a step-by-step guide

Resin jewelry is handcrafted jewelry made using a special liquid substance called resin, which hardens into a glossy, glass-like finish when cured. It's known for its vibrant colors, light weight, and artistic versatility.

One of the reasons that resin jewelry has become popular today is for its vibrant colors, lightweight feel, and endless customization.

But how is it actually made? Do you want to learn resin jewelry in India? We teach resin jewelry across the globe online and we frequently conduct offline workshops in Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore. But we would also like to explain more about the process of making resin jewelry here. So, here is a simple breakdown of the creative process that goes into every handcrafted resin piece.

🧪 Step 1: Gather the Materials

To make resin jewelry, artisans need:

  • Epoxy or UV resin

  • Silicone molds

  • Mixing cups and stirrers

  • Protective gloves & mask

  • Pigments, glitter, dried flowers, foil, or other embellishments

  • Jewelry findings (earring hooks, rings, chains, etc.)

🎨 Step 2: Mix the Resin

For epoxy resin, two parts—resin and hardener—are mixed in a specific ratio (usually 1:1). The artisan mixes slowly to avoid bubbles, which can distort the final look.

For UV resin, it’s a single-component formula, cured with a UV lamp (often faster, great for small pieces).

🌈 Step 3: Add Colors & Embellishments

This is where the creativity flows! Artisans may add:

  • Pigments for bold or translucent shades

  • Dried flowers or leaves for natural vibes

  • Foil flakes or glitter for shimmer

  • Mini beads, stones, or charms for texture

The mixture is poured carefully into silicone molds.

Step 4: Let It Cure

  • Epoxy resin takes 12–48 hours to fully cure (harden). It needs to sit undisturbed in a dust-free, flat area.

  • UV resin is cured in minutes under a UV lamp.

During this stage, bubbles are often removed using a heat gun or a toothpick.

🔍 Step 5: Demold & Finish

Once cured:

  • The resin piece is removed from the mold

  • Edges are sanded for a smooth finish

  • Gloss is applied if needed to enhance shine

🔗 Step 6: Add Jewelry Findings

The finished resin charms or shapes are turned into:

  • Earrings (attach hooks or studs)

  • Rings (glue to adjustable bands)

  • Necklaces or bracelets (add loops, chains, jump rings)

✅ Final Result: Wearable Art

Each piece is one-of-a-kind—a mini artwork frozen in clear, glossy resin. From statement earrings to dainty rings, resin jewelry reflects both the artisan's skill and your personal style.
